sup
so here's what i have learned this past week or so
i was talking with my uncle about starting up with my career and he said why are you waiting for jobs to open up when you can create things and sell them yourself and make a name for yourself
i was like well how am i supposed to make a name for myself when no one gives a crap about a starting artist seeing as there's so many of them all the time
he told me to develop and pitch characters by making them locally known first and then that way you can spread out through ads and galleries
so that way even if ur not working in the field ur resume still shows ur active and then people will share ur work with others
i know it sounds like a weird and complicated process but i think i understand what he means - after all our field requires a good strong network and usually it happens by word of mouth
friends and family
they love to brag about your talents at least one of them is bound to
so why not use it to your advantage
i think a gallery is a good goal for this year
i have a friend who does local gallery shows with her work and people come view it and read about the meaning behind each piece and many of them end u buying them from her for hundreds of dollars just because they have fallen in love with the concept behind the work
my uncle brought up a good point tho in order to get famous you need a good sales person on ur side
think about how many people you know that are good at convincing and persuading others
its very much possible to start from scratch instead of wishing to be noticed one day and spend hours upon hours looking for someone to take you under their wings
just an idea for you guys...
_ WHY NOT TRY IT?
fear is a monster
that thrives on hesitation and doubt
dont feed the monster. just go for it- whatever it may be..
go for the dream
go for the seemingly impossible idea
the worst that can happen is you get turned down
so what? keep at it and you'll get to where you want to be
in time
but have patience and keep ur head up
the more optimistic you are the less afraid you'll be
just TRY thats all im saying.

That's a good attitude to have! The self-entrepreneur is always a fallback and side-project idea that can never hurt. Just makes sure you copyright your material and advertise properly. You're bound to make leaps ahead as far as getting your name out goes. I wish the best of luck for you, and I know you have the talent for it! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your uncle, Nicole suggested I should make flier ads to promote myself and leave a bunch in those small town centers cuz we have one practically down the street, so why not right? Perhaps you should do that as well..
